5 Travel Tips on Packing Light
When I call this a travel and fashion blog, I take the “fashion” part lightly. My sense of style is very basic, and I value comfort above all. Especially when traveling – aint nobody got time for that!
As a rule of thumb, any trip 2 weeks or less is carry-on only. Read more for 5 tips on packing light while still looking great!
1. Accessorize
Scarves, jewelry, sunglasses – these items are small but can completely transform an outfit. Turn your look from day to night by dressing it up with a chunky statement necklace.
Scarves are a great compliment to any outfit, and can even be substituted for a light jacket by acting as a shawl. My favorite trick, however, is using a light scarf as an impromptu beach cover up. Open your scarf to its full width, wrap it around your waist and tie it at the hip – voila!
2. Mix & Match
Choose wisely – pack a variety of brights, basics, and prints. Pair a colorful blouse with jeans or a print skirt with a basic top. Use the same staple items to create a new look every day.
3. Pack in Pairs
Two is your golden number – if you mix and match correctly, you shouldn’t need more than two of each item:
- 2 shoes
- 2 pants
- 2 dresses (or skirts)
- 2 tanks
- 2 short-sleeved tops
- 2 long-sleeved tops
4. The Kimono
The kimono is a category in and of itself. I love this style for travel- you can wear it as a cover up over your swimsuit, as a wrap dress, over a tank and jeans…the possibilities are endless.
5. Wear What You Buy
Shopping during a trip is always fun – so why not wear what you buy? Mentally save that space ahead of time and you won’t be sitting on your suitcase, tugging at that zipper on the way home!
